It started with the formfitting leather pants and slouchy socks at Rag & Bone, continued through the oversized white button-downs and one–shoulder bandage dresses at Alexander Wang, and concluded with a mesmerizing parade of things studded and acid-washed at William Rast. By the end of Fashion Week, all my smug jokes about this oft-maligned fashion era had been called into question as I came to a singularly unsettling understanding: I Love the ‘80s. It was like realizing my free pass wouldn’t be David Duchovny or Ira Glass as I publically proclaimed, but Bret Michaels. But fear not the eighties, ladies. This time designers keep the cool parts and mercifully leave the cheesier aspects behind.
