I hate to admit it, but aside from a pair of unfortunate pinstriped trousers from long-ago job interviews, my pants collection is limited to a stack of jeans. Though that stack is fairly high, running the gamut from skinny jeans to flares, denim leggings to boot-cuts, I’m getting bored with that much blue. So this spring, I’ll move out of my comfort zone with a pair of cropped pants, and since I can’t help picturing soccer moms in capris and trainers, I asked Senior Stylist Morgan how I can make cropped pants less Little League and more fashion pro.
“Right now, transition your cropped pants into spring by wearing socks with booties,” says Morgan. “I especially love a pair of lace-ups, like this pair of Balmain booties, with cropped twill pants for a military-influenced look.”
“When the weather gets a little warmer, try a springy style (like a pair of floral Nanette Lepore pants) and balance the color with a nude shoe. Be sure to elongate the leg with heels—and remember that cropped pants are the perfect opportunity to show off a really unique pair of high-heel sandals, like lug-sole Camilla Skovgaards.”
