Known for their statement-making jewelry, DANNIJO has quickly become a go-to fashion favorite, and their collaboration with nonprofit Falling Whistles is only natural considering the sisters’ roots in philanthropic design. Prior to the launch of DANNIJO, designers Danielle and Jodie Snyder created a collection for Live With A Lifelong Ambition to support grassroots initiatives for change in Africa. 

Using Falling Whistle’s signature symbol, DANNIJO added chains, crystals, and beads culminating in pieces inspired by the idea of “peaceful warriors.” Worn close to the heart, the whistles are meant to provoke conversations about the terrifying truth of child soldiers in the DRC. Tasteful and sophisticated, each piece is wrapped with hope for a peaceful Congo.

Emily Weiss began her career in fashion while studying art at NYU, and after honing her skills at W magazine, she settled into a coveted position assisting American Vogue stylist Elissa Santisi. Fully immersed in the industry, Emily launched Into the Gloss in 2010, profiling the insiders and influencers shaping current beauty trends. We asked Emily to share a few tips about surviving the marathon that is New York Fashion Week.

Shopbop: What are your beauty and health rituals in the weeks leading up to NYFW?
Emily Weiss: Manicure and pedicure, of course. Hair cut and color. But the number one most important thing is SLEEP! I have to get as much as I can because as soon as fashion week starts, it goes out the window.

SB: What are your favorite NYFW oases?
EW: I refuel at neighborhood restaurants like Osteria Morini and Café Select, and pop into YogaWorks for a BarWorks class when I can, to keep my strength up.

SB: What is your favorite fashion week memory to date?
EW: Working with designer Derek Lam and stylist Elissa Santisi to put looks together for his runway shows. They are a dream team, always laughing and having fun.

My least favorite month is looming. Inevitably, I let the dark, sloppy cold of February bring me down.  Not this year. After the overwhelmingly successful debut of this neon shoe, I am eschewing the neutrals and darks that usually dominate my winter wardrobe. Peeking out of my parka will be bright resort classics I can layer now and wear through August.

A Kelly green Alice + Olivia blazer can be tossed over a cashmere Ami Dans La Rue sweater now, and then turn a backless Matthew Williamson Escape dress into an office-friendly look for summer. Bright blue and extra roomy, an Alexander Wang tote adds a pop of color to a weary work wardrobe, and come spring, will stow away a light blanket for spontaneous picnics in the park. With a Rag & Bone cardigan, this Mason by Michelle Mason jumpsuit is a cozy cold-weather date option. A few months later, add dangling Michael Kors earrings and dazzle during an al fresco dinner.

The beauty of a raw stone radiates in these part-jewelry, part-sculpture designs.  Cubist pyrite and peaks of amethyst showcase the unique organic aesthetic of the namesake designer. Charles Albert and Beth Marciel-Albert create one-of-a-kind pieces with brilliant dyed and natural agates for this Florida-based line. Their jewelry is inspired by nature and the uniqueness of the stones. A one-shoulder silhouette provides the oversized rings and glossy cuffs with the spotlight they deserve.

While traditional resort collections (heavy on the palazzo pants and sensible sandals) don’t send me skittering for my passport and scanning for airfare deals, this year’s looks have a well-traveled bohemian vibe that’s positively wanderlust-inducing: exotic, romantic, a little unexpected.

With a wardrobe reduced to a few adaptable, heavy-hitting pieces, there’ll be plenty of room left over in that suitcase for travel treasures and mementos.
