Wrapping up our Fashion’s Night Out 2012 interviews with industry experts, we posed a few FNO-related questions to Senior Stylist Aya Kanai, the newest addition to the Shopbop styling team. Here’s what she had to say:

SHOPBOP: What are you most looking forward to for this year’s FNO?
AYA KANAI: I’m a fan of illustration and graphic novels, so I’m looking forward to checking out the 3.1 Phillip Lim event. The brand is launching “Kill The Night,” an original comic book co-written by the designer and John Ostrander and drawn by Jan Duursema of Star Wars comic book fame. It’s such a cool idea!

SB: Where will we be able to find you throughout the course of the event?
AK: I’ve learned to pick a neighborhood and stick to it—I usually hang out in Soho. Trying to get to different neighborhoods will leave you trapped in transit for the evening rather than having fun!

SB: Perhaps the most important question: what are you planning to wear?
AK: FNO is a great evening to wear my favorite new pieces for fall. I just got a cool Theyskens’ Theory backpack and J Brand leather pants.

SB: And finally, what would we find in your Fashion’s Night Out survival kit?
AK: My Metrocard! I don’t bother trying to get a cab. There are NONE!

Continuing our celebration of Fashion’s Night Out 2012, we took a moment to ask designer Rebecca Minkoff about fashion’s biggest party.

SHOPBOP: What are you most looking forward to for this year’s FNO?
REBECCA MINKOFF: I just love walking around the city and seeing the excitement of all the people enjoying the store parties.

SB: What will you be wearing this year?
RM: I’m not sure yet, but I know I’ll have on comfortable shoes and a lot of good jewelry!

SB: Can you share a favorite FNO memory?
RM: I loved my event last year. We did a braid bar, and the line wrapped around the store’s floor!

Throwing a few necklaces over an outfit is a perfect extension of your personal style. The tricky part is making a cohesive grouping. The key is to give meaning to each piece. Varied chain textures and pendants create a look that feels like it’s curated over time. Strike a balance with similar colors and finishes. To keep the chains from clumping and tangling, layer different lengths with diverse shapes—think U shapes, with Vs, and Ys.

Another great tip is to use your neckline as a guide. A portrait collar begs for layers of necklaces. Just be sure to keep the lengths within the edges of the collar. Short necklaces will get lost on a boat neck or a crew collar, so layer long necklaces to create classic silhouette. With a button-down, you can either button it all the way up and stack short necklaces under the collar, or open the neckline to show off layers of mid-length necklaces.

Fashion’s Night Out 2012 is just over a week away—the event takes place on Thursday, September 6, this year. Last week, we asked a few industry pros to build their FNO look using pieces from our Fashion’s Night Out boutique. This week, they’re sharing highlights from FNOs of the past, as well as tips to make it through the busy night. First up: DJ, fashion plate, and sister to Beyoncé, Solange Knowles.

SHOPBOP: What is your favorite Fashion’s Night Out memory?
SOLANGE KNOWLES: I DJed at Roberto Cavalli two years ago. It was really laid-back and super chill, which is my favorite kind of anything. And I got to keep the outfit— always a plus!

SB: What’s your go-to party outfit?
SK: There’s no such thing! It’s all about your vibe and what you’re feeling. I like to keep things unfussy, but not necessarily effortless-looking. Anything in a great color or print achieves this.

SB: What’s in your Fashion’s Night Out survival kit?
SK: Relatively comfy shoes, my ’82 Nikon camera, a camera bag (Madewell makes a cute one), and, truth be told, a nice glass of champagne.

SB: And finally, what are some must-have songs on your party playlist?
SK: Million Dollar Bill by  Whitney Houston, Adorn by Miguel, 110% by Jessie Ware, and Round of Applause by Waka Flocka Flame.

1. Moisturize your hands after every wash. This keeps them from getting too dry and chapped all year long.
2. Clip your nails only when a lot of length needs to be removed. Otherwise try to file your nails to desired length. This will prevent your nails from cracking and splitting at the tips.
3. Always use a base coat when painting your nails. Skipping this part can leave you with dry, polish-stained nails.
4. Never cut your own cuticles. It can lead to infections. Use cuticle oil and gently push your cuticles back.
5. If you have extra-dry hands, rub a petroleum product all over your hands and cover them with gloves to hydrate overnight.
