We Play Favorites: Holly and Rag & Bone

Rag & Bone Midnight Shirt, Jefferson Blazer, Lory Sweater, Tutu Skirt.

With as much time as our staffers spend living and breathing fashion, it shouldn't be surprising that favorite brands start to rise to the top of our individual must-have lists. In this new feature, we’ll talk about those favorite designers and how they fit into our personal style. First up: Holly, who loves Rag & Bone.

Name: Holly
Position: Online Merchandiser
Favorite Brand: Rag & Bone

Why you love the brand in 6 words or less.
Holly: Pops of color and edgy staples.

What’s your favorite piece from the brand right now?
Holly: The Tutu Skirt.

How would you describe your personal style?
Holly: It completely depends on my mood, but I always try to wear things that are both comfortable and make me feel good. I tend to mix my basics with trendier pieces.

Do you have a style icon?
Holly: Kate Moss and the Olsen twins.

If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what pieces would it consist of?
Holly: I would stick to the basics: skinny jeans, sneakers or flats, a slouchy tee, and a blazer.

What is your earliest fashion-related memory?
Holly: Rummaging through my grandmother’s jewelry box and piling on all of her necklaces. I still wear some of them today!

Ask Shopbop: Investing in a Blazer

Clockwise, from top left: Merchandiser Monica in an Elizabeth and James blazer, LAVEER cropped blazer, A.L.C. blazer, Rag & Bone blazer.

I’d really like to invest in a blazer, but there are so many choices. How can I pick out the right one for me?

Blazers are a definitive building block for any fashion gal’s wardrobe. Just check out the cute pic we snapped of Monica working it in her Elizabeth and James blazer. There are three questions you need to ask yourself when selecting such a versatile investment piece.

Where Will You Wear It?
This informs appropriate cuts and fabric types. For example, if you’re putting together a menswear-inspired look for a cocktail party, I would steer away from casual cottons or boyish cuts. Instead opt for dressier wools in feminine shapes. On the flip side, although a snazzy evening jacket is a fun piece, I would lean toward more versatile fabrics and androgynous silhouettes for everyday wear.

What Will You Wear It With?
If you prefer a sleeveless shell or easy tank, then casual, machine washable styles are right for you. When blouses suit your style, or if you’re comfortable with frequent dry cleaning, then consider the wide range of fabrications available. Blazers are showing up in everything from silks to leather these days.

How Much Will You Wear It?
If this item has the potential to be a true staple, then go for a timeless, single breasted black or navy number from a trusted brand, like Theory, Smythe, Rag & Bone, or LAVEER. Both colors in light wool can be very appropriate year round. If you’re adding a novelty blazer to the rotation, then opt for a color or print that inspires. Experiment with details like strong shoulders, peplums, or notable lapels.

The Brit Awards, Shopbop & Bip Ling

Bip Ling is wearing an Alice + Olivia skirt, Alexander Wang heels, and her own denim jacket.

Last Wednesday, Shopbop hosted a champagne cruise down London’s River Thames, destination: the Brit Awards, the UK’s answer to America’s Grammys. On board was London-based blogger Bip Ling. We took a minute of her time to ask her about the night.

SHOPBOP: Did you have fun on the Shopbop boat and at the Brit Awards?
BIP LING: Yes I did! Going to the event on the boat was super exciting!

SB: Tell us about your outfit. Why did you choose the pieces you chose?
BL: The Alexander Wang boots looked cool, and they’re also really comfy so I could dance. They kept me going all night!

SB: What was your favorite moment from the night?
BL: When Justin Timberlake performed! I saw him once when I was about 14.

SB: If you were to win a Brit Award, what would it be for?
BL: Erm… I have no idea! Best music video, maybe!

SB: Who would be the first person you thanked in your acceptance speech?
BL: My agent, of course! grin

From a Boat to the Brit Awards

Last Wednesday, Shopbop played captain and host aboard the Edwardian, destination: the Brit Awards. In attendance were some of London’s chicest, as well as plenty of bubbly, and the city’s skyline served as the perfect backdrop as the boat meandered down the winding Thames. How to Wear Stripes

Dokia is wearing an Enza Costa tank, an Elizabeth and James blazer, J Brand Read-to-Wear leather pants, and Alexander Wang sandals. Meredith is wearing a Plush hat, a Paige Denim shirt, a Zoe Karssen tee, TEXTILE Elizabeth and James jeans, and Pour La Victoire booties.

Prints change with each new season. Fall brings in rich tartans and plaids, while feminine florals tend to crop up in spring. Stripes however, are on-trend at every season, year after year. And with a few tips, this linier style is easy to wear. The key is to anchor the striped piece with a few solids. The horizontal lines can create the illusion of volume, so pairing them with neutrals keeps everything proportional. And don’t underestimate the impact of accessories. Small doses of colorful stripes add a playful feel to the preppy print.
