Ask Shopbop: A Designer Halloween

Look 1: Rag & Bone coat, Marc by Marc Jacobs blouse, Rachel Pally skirt. Look 2: Free People dress, Plush tights, Jerome C. Rousseau booties.

I want to get the most out of my Halloween costume this year. Any suggestions?

Halloween is such a fun time of year. The candy, the crisp air, and of course the costumes. I love the idea of getting a real investment piece out of your costume. My advice is to pick out the item that you really want, and base your costume around it.

A quality red coat is classic and seasonless. When paired with a flowing maxi skirt and a pussy-bow blouse, it also makes an excellent Little Red Riding Hood costume. Another great option is treating yourself to a short mod dress. In addition to being a great anchor piece for a swinging ’60s getup, it’ll really stand out come party season. The trick here is to think outside the box. A DANNIJO statement necklace could be the centerpiece of a Cleopatra look, or a Vince moto jacket could help you channel James Dean.
