Is there a simple way I can update a classic, neutral look with accent accessories?
Lately I’ve been seeing red, and I don’t mean that in a bad way! Gorgeous hats, jewels, bags, and booties have been hitting our shelves in every incarnation of the hue, from bright candy apple to rich burgundy. Red is a really strong statement color, especially around the holidays, so I like to bring it into a look with equally strong accessories. These are my top three tips for adding crimson accents:
Don’t be afraid to mix different hues—most reds play very nicely together. Try a two-toned red item, like a structured DVF handbag, to set the stage for a varied palette.
Create balance by distributing the accent color throughout the full look. Bold red A Peace Treaty earrings won’t feel out of place with the support of a luxe red heel or clutch.
Remember the importance of texture when selecting monochromatic accessories. The highlight and shadow created by fabrics like patent and suede invite a lot of interest. Plus, it can ease the worry of matching too well or not well enough!
