Beyond the Mini Dress: What to Wear to a Holiday Party

Party season is just around the corner. This year, leave that pretty frock on its hanger and and try something that puts a little swagger in your step, something that says "I do what I want." These suggestions will help get your inner stylist started:

Menswear Inspired
Pair ADAM by Adam Lippes' pleated tuxedo pants with a silk blouse and an Elizabeth and James blazer. Add a feminine touch with leopard pumps and a Tory Burch clutch.

'70s Glam
For all you would-be disco divas, lace and glittery jumpsuits by Tibi and Alice + Olivia have that "I just threw this on and walked out the door" flair that epitomizes jet-set chic.

Casual Cool
Roll up some skinny jeans, tuck in a pretty top (like Madewell's velvet tank), and add some killer pumps from Jean-Michel Cazabat or Loeffler Randall. Top it off with a ladylike fur jacket or wrap (Joie clothing and Foley + Corinna have particularly fĂȘte-worthy examples). There's no such thing as underdressed when you look this good.

Unexpected Details
If you're jonesing to wear that tried-and-true feminine frock, spice it up with unexpected accessories. Try distressed Jeffrey Campbell boots, sassy thigh-high boots from Report Signature Shoes, or Opening Ceremony's shaggy shearling booties. Sachin + Babi's sequined gloves and Eugenia Kim's oversized bows will also set you apart from the crowd.
