Holiday Gift Ideas for Your Mom

Gifting season is officially upon us, and finding the perfect present for all your favorite folks can be a daunting task (to say the least). We’ve got clever and creative ideas for what to get all the ladies on your list.

Clockwise from upper left: Club Monaco airplane throw, Paula Bianco scarf, Tory Burch cosmetic bag, Theory cardigan, Derek Lam bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs gloves.

Mom can be a tough lady to shop for. Sure, she’d be happy with anything you gave her, so long as it was thoughtful, but this is the woman who gave you life, after all. She deserves something special. Help her keep cozy with fur-trimmed Marc by Marc Jacobs gloves and a homey-chic Paula Bianco scarf, or if she’s a traveler, a Club Monaco airplane throw and a Qi New York cashmere neck pillow. If she’s not one to splurge on herself, do it for her with an upscale-meets-utilitarian Derek Lam handbag (she’ll carry it forever), or pamper her with a spa gift card and some luxe lotions tucked into a Tory Burch cosmetic bag.

And if want to make it extra-personal, sentimental jewelry is a sure way to win her holiday heart: string Helen Ficalora charms stamped with the initials of you and your siblings on a simple silver chain.

The Sound of Style: Molami Headphones

Molami_product_bight_blacksilverStingray3

Created to combine fashion and function, Molami designs premium headphones to elevate the music-listening experience. Napa leather knots, a fabric-wrapped cord, and gold-plated accents on the Bight model are stylish and comfortable, while ingenious EarClick construction secures the headphones in two separate places. The Twine collection hides the traditional earbud style with a soft silk headband. Metal bars accent the silk as well as adjust the placement of the headphones. Both collections increase the quality of sound without sacrificing aesthetics. Break free of the chains of standard- issue design and soak up sounds of style with Molami headphones.

Holiday Gift Ideas for Your Sister

Gifting season is officially upon us, and finding the perfect present for all your favorite folks can be a daunting task (to say the least). We’re here to help with clever, creative ideas for all the ladies on your list.

First up, what to get your sister.

Clockwise, starting with the necklace: Gorjana necklace, 3-drawer jewelry box, antique leather journal.

The Sentimental Sweetheart
If your sis is cerebral and a little sentimental, a gift with meaning is the only way to go. A Gorjana necklace with her initials or astrological sign has a personal feel. Tuck it in a leather-covered jewelry box to make it feel extra special.

If she has a creative slant, she’ll love chronicling her thoughts in an Antique Leather Journal. Wrap it up with a luxe pen and write a message on page one. She’ll be reminded of you every time she opens it.

The Finest Faux

The Rickie Raccoon Faux Fur Coat by Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Though I have a soft spot for fur (so lush, so glamorous, so inviting!), I also love animals in their tail-wagging, lap-warming incarnations. Enter the luxe faux fur. The animal-friendly fur coats of today are, if anything, more glorious than their genuine counterparts: not limited by the laws of nature, they can be as plush as fox, as soft as rabbit, and as chic as chinchilla—all sustainably.

My favorite faux fur coats are a little bit playful—bold prints and tantalizing textures with a touch of whimsy. Look to Club Monaco and Marc by Marc Jacobs coats for wonderful leopards and raccoons, and Halston Heritage for polished, arctic glamour.

New Line to Know: Le Mont Saint Michel

For almost a century, Le Mont Saint Michel has had a role in the world of apparel. After decades of focusing on material manufacturing, Alexandre Milan took the company in a fresh new direction, and under his guidance, the design house of Le Mont St. Michel was reborn. Brimming with textile know-how, Milan combines classic French style with preppy British spirit. Cable-knit sweaters and thick cardigans abound in a beautiful collection of knitwear with just the right mix of craftsmanship and modernity.

Pack a Punch: The Colorful Clutch

Row 1: Foley + Corinna Mega Parcel Clutch, Lauren Merkin Allie Clutch, Sass & Bide Glitter Days Clutch. Row 2: Halston Heritage Jenny Clutch, Marc by Marc Jacobs Voyage Clutch, DVF Harri Clutch. Row 3: Botkier Trigger Clutch, Halston Heritage Jenny Clutch, Club Monaco Camille Bag.

Having a spent a bit of time in France, I’ve attempted over the years to take an important page from the chic Parisian’s style book: accessorize. A base of black is brought to life with dramatic accessories, and with the holiday season approaching, I’ve decided to bypass the sequins and brightly colored frocks this year and instead opt for my favorite little black dresses topped off with brilliant accessories.

Enter the colorful clutch. Ever since I first encountered Lauren Merkin handbags, I’ve had a soft spot for sweet clutches and have dedicated a precious corner of my closet to these dainty delicacies. At the moment, I’ve got my eye on offerings from Foley + Corinna and Botkier, Club Monaco and DVF. Paired with some blingy baubles, they’ll ensure my look is fresh, even if I’m recycling my dress.

Introducing JOSA tulum by Joanne Salt

The designer (center right) and a few of her favorite places in Tulum, Mexico.

In 2009, Joanne Salt left the hectic New York photography industry and headed south to Tulum, Mexico, to start a new chapter with her newborn son, Luca. There, she met Ana Cabello, and the two quickly teamed up to launch JOSA tulum, a collection of contemporary, sexy dresses for the beach and beyond. We talked with Joanna about the collection.

Shopbop: What is the inspiration behind the JOSA tulum collection?
Joanne Salt: I draw inspiration from all the vintage caftans I have owned or seen while traveling around the world.

SB: What are your favorite things about living in Tulum?
JS: The locals, the beach, the noises you hear when you walk around—we live in the jungle, really, so the sounds you hear are incredible.

SB: How has your work in the photography industry influenced the way you approach design?
JS: Being around photo studios for thirteen years really allowed me to experience a behind-the-scenes style that I love. It’s all about being sexy and comfortable.

SB: Your pieces are the ultimate in versatility: equally at home on the beach or out for dinner, and they suit every body type. How did you manage to strike such a complex balance?
JS: It came out of necessity. I split time between New York and Tulum, and I needed to build a wardrobe I could wear in both places.

Shop the JOSA tulum collection.

Fall’s Colored Denim

Shop this look.

All summer, I lived in my cherry red J Brand skinny jeans. But as the weather cools and the leaves turn, I want my wardrobe to shift its shades as well. My must-have colors are eggplant, wine, chocolate, and pumpkin: rich shades reminiscent of autumn’s comfort foods.

Look to Rag & Bone/JEAN and Mother denim for a wide range of mouth-watering options. If you’re craving texture as well as tone, try AG Adriano Goldschmied and J Brand for superb treated options.
