What The FK: My Fight with a Fashion B——

Seven people texted me yesterday, and all of them pretty much said the same thing:

OMG ALEX WANG BALENCIAGA OMG?!?!

I couldn't respond. Frankly, I have no time to focus on fashion rumors—or guys, yoga classes, grocery shopping, Homeland episodes, parties, or... uh... sleep.

Why? Because I'm involved in a major fashion feud with a real bitch.

Ask Shopbop: Winter Whites

Look 1: Marc by Marc Jacobs sweater, Vince leather pants, 3.1 Phillip Lim bag. Look 2: Rebecca Minkoff moto jacket, Rag & Bone/JEAN denim. Look 3: 10 Crosby Derek Lam top, 10 Crosby Derek Lam skirt.

I love the idea of wearing white well into winter. How can I keep my look season appropriate?

Never a group to follow the rules, the fashion set has long since abolished the “no white after Labor Day” law. But as the temperatures dip, there are a few things to keep in mind. The key to pulling off winter white is to anchor your look in heavier fabrics and rich textures—your lightweight dresses in airy fabrics are best left for summer. Layering pieces of leather, tweed, and heavy knits give the light color a more roughed-up, winter feel. Finally, avoid pairing white with other pastels. Contrast colors like graphic black, saturated eggplant, and luxe oxblood keep the look seasonal.

4 Ways to Wear Belts

Clockwise from left: Rag & Bone Leather Roller Belt, Linea Pelle Allegra Haircalf Belt, Rag & Bone Triple Wrap Belt, Maison Martin Margiela Thin Rocker Belt (sold out, shop similar).

Style is in the details, and in this world of personal touches, a basic buckled belt just won’t do anymore. Creative knots add a certain cool-girl je ne sais quoi, and I tapped Shopbop Stylist Rachel for a few tips on how to master the unique knot.

Follow the images clockwise, starting in the upper left corner. Click on the image for a more detailed view of the looks.

THE NON-KNOT
How to: Pull the belt through the buckle, but skip the belt notches and loop the end of the belt over the top of the buckle. Pull the end through behind the belt, and let the rest dangle.
Wear it with: A casual look for a perfectly undone feel.

THE FIGURE 8
How to: Pull the belt through the buckle as you normally would. Tuck the end under the belt, and loop it back over the top and through the loop formed by the buckle and the slide.
Wear it with: Airy silhouettes to give your waist some definition.

THE MESSY WRAP
How to: Pull the end of the belt through the buckle as you normally would. Then, weave the end in and out of the strands of the wrap belt.
Wear it with: High-waisted pencil skirts or trousers to give the refined pieces a touch of nonchalance.

THE CLASSIC KNOT
How to: Using a long belt or a belt with an extra-long tail, pull the end through the buckle as you normally would. From the bottom, tuck the end under the belt, leaving a little space on the front. Pull the end over the top of the belt and through the open space. Pull tight.
Wear it with: Everything! From pants to jeans to skirts to dresses, this is an easy way to add a little something extra to any ensemble.

Studio Sounds

The weekend was relaxing, but it’s back to work here at Shopbop. Our studio is ready to blow through the week with some high-energy tracks.

“After a long holiday weekend, we need upbeat music, and we need it loud. This playlist should do the trick!”
