What The FK: Double Up

Cr Have you ever shown up in the same outfit as your friend? I have, but she wasn't a pal. She was a middle school rival. As a striving, scheming 12-year-old, I was convinced that my scant social standing had evaporated, all thanks to an Empire Records-inspired sweater.

Fortunately, we've all grown up (I hope) and learned that kindness is cooler than most things, even a Secret Life of Alex Mac marathon. Though, you wouldn't know it from reading tabloids, where "Who Wore It Better" seems to be a bigger scandal than Blake + Miranda / Kim + Kanye / (Insert Your Favorite Celeb Couple Here). Meanwhile, chick flicks like Clueless and SATC 2 turn dress-doubles into plot points. ("Hey Ambular, do you prefer the term fashion victim or ensembly challenged?") And it's been seven years since Kirsten + Reese wore the same Chanel gown, but E! News still talks about it.

Designer Interview: Julie Sarinana from Sincerely Jules

Look 1: AG Adriano Goldschmied jacket, Sincerely Jules tee, Tibi shorts, DVF sandals, Rebecca Minkoff bag. Look 2: Sincerely Jules sweatshirt, AG Adriano Goldschmied jeans, Alexander Wang tote, Superga sneakers.

Already a must-read on our blog roll, Sincerely Jules blogger Julie Sariñana has made her way into our closets as well. Her collection of soft tees and sweatshirts showcase her signature creativity with playful bon mots Her enviable, easy Cali style shines in the two looks she put together, exclusively for Shoptalk.

SHOPBOP: How did you style these looks?
JULIE SARIÑANA: Both of them are really similar to my style: easy, effortless and chic. I wanted to incorporate a floral-on-floral look, so I paired the rose tee with cool Tibi shorts for a fresh spring feel. Adding sandals instead of heels feels more laid-back, which I love. The Dream Believe Achieve tee is definitely a showstopper, so I paired it with jeans and sneakers for a more relaxed, off-duty look. The words on the tee are bold, so everything else simple, with just one pop of red to break the up the dark colors.

SB: What inspired the design of the tees?
JS: I'm huge fan of fresh flowers, so I knew I wanted to have an illustration of a floral piece with a watercolor effect. It feels so romantic, pretty, and delicate! As for the other tee, I'm a huge believer in dreaming big, believing in those dreams, and doing the impossible to achieve them. I wanted to spread my motto and inspire everyone time they wear the tee!

SB: What is your favorite part of the design process? What surprised you the most?
JS: My favorite part of the design process has been looking for inspiration—flipping through magazines, browsing the web, or checking out my favorite flea markets. What surprised me the most was how difficult and time consuming it is to design. There are so many back-and-forth revisions to finalize the product. It doesn't help that I'm such a perfectionist either!

SB: A graphic tee is generally pretty casual. How would you dress it up?
JS: A tee is a universal staple piece! I love a great tee, and am always taking them from day to night. Dress it up by throwing on a black blazer, a bold necklace, and your favorite pair of strappy heels.

Ask Shopbop: Investing in Leather Pants

Alexander Wang pants, Current/Elliott vest, Theyskens’ Theory booties, 3.1 Phillip Lim bag.

I’m looking to add a pair of leather pants to my wardrobe. What’s the smartest style to invest in?

Leather pants are a perennial favorite and a must-have for this season. We're seeing everything from fun, slouchy silhouettes to classic skinny styles. If you're considering your first pair, I highly recommend going with a black legging. Great for layering or as a stand-alone pant, it’s a versatile and easy-to-care for staple. Another strong option is a loose leather trouser. The combination of rocker leather and cool-girl harem pants is a perfect fashion marriage. They can pull a look together instantly, plus they're super comfy. Really, leather pants of any shape insert themselves easily into a myriad of looks. They’re sharp when paired with dresses, tunics, blazers, loose knits, tees, or even gauzy peasant tops.

Meet Swedish Fashion Import, Dagmar

The sister-designers behind the Swedish label, Dagmar.

Introducing Dagmar, a collection designed by Swedish sisters Kristina Tjäder, Karin Söderlind, and Sofia Wallenstam. Named for the trio’s grandmother, a tailor who inspired the sisters to develop their interest in fabrics and design at a young age, Dagmar samples from art deco influences to create innovative pieces with a focus on knits. We talked with Kristina, Karin, and Sofia about their brand and their inspiration.

SHOPBOP: Tell us a little about Dagmar. How would you describe the brand’s aesthetic?
DAGMAR: Dagmar is both unconventional and sophisticated. We like to say the style is best described as relaxed luxury with attitude.

SHOPBOP: Your grandmother, who was a tailor, serves as the muse for the line. Can you tell us a little about how she inspires each collection?
DAGMAR: She was a bit quirky and fun, and always mixed and matched patterns and colors in a great way. We always have this in mind while working on new designs. She also had a weakness for nice fabrics and high quality, and so do we.

Three looks from the Dagmar spring 2013 runway: Clem sweater, Pallas Athena skirt/dress, and Lutha dress.

SHOPBOP: Craftsmanship plays a big role in Dagmar. Why is this element important to you?
DAGMAR: We’re nerds about nice quality and love good seam or a well-made knitted piece.

SHOPBOP: The spring collection has a relaxed, fluid, sensual feel. Tell us about the inspiration behind it.
DAGMAR: The name of the collection is Bio Architecture, and it’s a blend of delicate and rough, high tech and traditional. It comes from our inner longing to go back to nature, but without compromising with modern facilities or constant connection to the rest of the world.

SHOPBOP: Discuss the color palette of the spring collection—a stunning mix of colors both vibrant and subtly muted. What story does it tell?
DAGMAR: We have taken mineral and sandy hues, and we mixed in the colors of the sunset when it is as bright as it can get. The palette is inspired by nature and the shades of Earth’s layers.

SHOPBOP: Do you have a favorite piece from the spring collection? What makes it special?
DAGMAR: This spring, we are all longing for color, so our favorites include the Clem sweater in a neon sunset shade, and the Pallas Athena skirt/dress and Lutha dress.
