What it is: Club Monaco Julie Colorblock Turtleneck
Why we love it: A simple silhouette makes a bold impact in black and white colorblocking.
Wear it with: Straight-leg jeans and a McQ - Alexander McQueen blazer.
It’s the end of another week and I couldn’t be more excited—and not just because our studio is blasting Country Grammar. October is almost here! The leaves, the pumpkins, and of course Halloween—I love it all. I’m planning a house-decorating extravaganza and can’t wait to get started. But before that, here are some of my favorite links from the week. Happy October!
One look at Shopbop’s Hair & Beauty Pinterest board and you know there is a serious braid obsession here. I’m a huge part of it, once organizing “Braid Fridays.” To get some background on this historical hair style, Refinery29 looked at braid trends 3500 BCE to the present.
Everyone needs a good mantra to get them through tough times and villains are no different. Artist Christopher Ables channeled animation’s evilest, creating colorful posters depicting their hilarious affirmations.
On Friday afternoons, the mind inevitably drifts to thoughts of a post-work indulgence. Today I’m dreaming of brandy and apple cider. Photographer Sarah Anne Ward speeds up the process, shooting vintage cocktails in their respective classic glassware. You can almost hear the ice clinking.
Shopbop Style Director Elle Strauss shares her latest favorites. This week, she offers up her must-haves for fall.
Despite temperatures in the high 70s, I'm still thinking about the crisp days of fall—a Shopbop girl must always be prepared! I also love a good shopping list. Here’s what I'm obsessing over this week.
3.1 Phillip Lim Pullover
I’m planning to live in this sweater. I love how the bubble texture gives a subtle edge to a basic silhouette.
Sea Tank Dress
This dress is great for work or weekend. I'm planning to add a blazer and pointy pumps for work, and pair it with a chunky brown cardigan and knee-high boots for the weekend.
I’m a big Suno fan. This button-down is a gorgeous twist on a classic blouse. It’s the perfect transitional piece to take me from summer to fall.
Pierre Balmain Leather Pants
I love! These are a great update on the skinny leather pant. I shall be rocking them with my bubble-stitch 3.1 Phillip Lim sweater.
Derek Lam Booties
These are the perfect wedge booties in both height AND comfort! I will be pairing these with everything from skinny jeans to a leather miniskirt.
Alexis Bittar Collar
This gold collar necklace is the perfect accessory to dress up a simple black or white T-shirt. I'm literally adding it to my shopping cart as I type!
Sophie Hulme Mini Bag
Sophie Hulme is a wonderful British bag designer. I love her trademark tote, but this handbag is the perfect size for running around town. It's also great for a splash of color to my very black-heavy wardrobe.

With as much time as our staffers spend living and breathing fashion, it shouldn’t be surprising that favorite brands start to rise to the top of our individual must-have lists. In this feature, we’re talking about those favorite designers and how they fit into our personal style. This month: Vanessa, who loves 3.1 Phillip Lim.
Name: Vanessa Algotsson
Position: Fashion Copywriter
Brand: 3.1 Phillip Lim
Why you love the brand in 6 words or less.
Perfectly balanced edge and sophistication.
What’s your favorite piece from the brand right now?
I just got the Ryder Satchel. I knew it would be perfect for work—it’s just the right size for magazines! I’m also loving the way 3.1 Phillip Lim is mixing different materials like neoprene, wool, and leather for fall.
How would you describe your personal style?
I’m half Swedish, and I feel like I really defined my look while I lived there, identifying with the whole Scandinavian minimalism thing. I tend to go for comfortable and simple pieces, and make bigger statements with standout shoes, bags, and coats.
Do you have a style icon?
I look to Swedish fashion insiders like Elin Kling and Columbine Smille for inspiration. I’m also pretty obsessed with Emmanuelle Alt and Diane Kruger.
If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what pieces would it consist of?
Easy! A loose top, slim-fitting grey jeans, ankle boots, leather jacket, black sunnies, and a big black bag. No jewelry, other than a simple necklace. Bonus info: super-simple makeup. Black liquid liner, mascara, and NARS lipstick in Heat Wave, Schiap, or Barbarella. Oh, and an orangey-red nail polish.
What is your earliest fashion-related memory?
My parents and I went to London for New Year’s Eve when I was 10. My mother took me to the children’s department of Harrods, where I picked out a pair of black leather monk-strap shoes. I felt so fancy!
