Ask Shopbop:  Resort Color Combos

Clockwise, from top left: Equipment blouse, Nanette Lepore jacket, Clare V. clutch, Schutz pumps, Oscar de la Renta necklace, Jenni Kayne skirt.

You can always count on the resort season to bring fun color combinations. This year, look to pair orchid and yellow, orange and coral, and light pink and blue for a sunny welcome to spring!

Clockwise, from top left: RES Denim jeans, Enza Costa sweater, Giambattista Valli pumps, IRO leather jacket, Ray-Ban sunglasses.

When combining bold colors, think of one hue as your dominant or foundation color and use the other as an accent. Enlist accessories as key pieces to tell the story. A sharp orchid dress can be skillfully complemented by yellow shades and narrow floral belt that picks up both colors. Or, try off- setting a long maxi with a bright scarf and printed bag.

Clockwise, from top left: Love Quotes scarf, Young Fabulous & Broke dress, Soludos sandals, SWASH bag, GARRETT LEIGHT sunglasses.

Ask Shopbop: How to Wear Printed Sneakers

Clockwise, from top left:Zimmermann sneakers, Sam Edelman sneakers, Marc by Marc Jacobs sneakers, Kate Spade sneakers.

Of all recent trends, printed sneakers are one of my favorites. Far from exclusive, a gal can sport some bright patterned kicks at any price point. Some of the best are also some of the most affordable.

Loni is wearing leopard-print Mother of Pearl sneakers.

From a styling perspective, have fun with this one—indulge! Printed sneakers will be at home with a large slice of your wardrobe. From jeans and tees, all the way to a chic jacket and full-legged trouser, this footwear throwback injects some light-heartedness into most ensembles.

Ask Shopbop: Swim Trends

Resortwear has started to fill the pages of What’s New. To get ready for beach season, we asked stylist Loni to break down the latest trends in swimwear.

It's wild to think about swimwear when the temperatures are below freezing, but here are a few musings to help you prepare for your winter getaway—or just to help transport your thoughts to warmer times. Big trends in swim for the coming seasons are black and white one-pieces, printed cover-ups, and surf-inspired pieces.

OndadeMar one-piece, Karla Colletto one-piece, Luli Fama once-piece.

BLACK & WHITE
Black and white can read mod in the best way, especially in the cool, one-piece silhouettes of 2014. Opt for some white sunnies, a structured PVC tote, and a pop of yellow or kelly green.

JADEtribe cover-up, 9seed cover-up, Tigerlily cover-up.

PRINTED COVER-UPS
When it comes to printed cover-ups—think big florals, bold animal print, or bright paisleys—I'm always a fan of channeling your inner bohemian. Reach for a floppy hat, natural leather sandals, a jute bag, and beaded jewels.

Seea rash guards and Tallow wetsuit.

SURF INSPIRED
Lastly, surf pieces bring out the inner athlete in everyone. Mist your hair with sea salt spray, grab some bright Ray-Ban Wayfarers, and slip on your Havaianas for a day on the beach. Happy swimming!

Ask Shopbop: Work it Out

SOLOW workout gear.

'Tis the season for over-indulging. Thankfully, Loni has just the fashion advice to help you stay motivated (and looking cute) at the gym.

Looking fashionable during a workout has never been easier. There are so many flattering, comfortable options out there these days—thank goodness. Reach for easy mix-and-match separates in black, white, and grey. Then, just toss clean gear into your carryall and create your look at the gym. If you won't leave home without a splash of color, add it with accessories like headbands, socks, or hats. Colorful pants and tops can really show sweat, which is never ideal. Make sure your outerwear is gym-appropriate too—think performance-wear or a chic, oversized parka. Leave your wool pieces at home. Lastly, go for a simple beauty routine. Clear mascara, a bit of gloss, and a cheek stain will look fresh and won’t run when the instructor kicks it up a notch.

Ask Shopbop: Loni’s Top 4 Must-Haves

Clockwise, from top left: Rag & Bone/JEAN skinny jeans, Zimmermann top, Mania Mania earrings, and See by Chloe booties.

We are in the midst of our Spend More & Save More event. To celebrate, we asked Stylist Loni to share the top four items she’s currently coveting. Check out her obsessions, and use code BIGEVENT13 to save 15-25%.

Lately, I’ve been in the mood to revive some of my favorite bohemian investment pieces. Paisley prints, washed denim, suede, and easy, unstructured accessories are key. I love Zimmermann for incredible prints and updated, yet relaxed silhouettes. Try Mania Mania for statement jewelry with a subversive, vintage vibe. Lastly, check out See by Chloe for timeless suede booties and Rag & Bone/JEAN for slouchy denim with instant worn-in softness.

Ask Shopbop: Borrowed from the Boys

Clockwise, from top left: Splendid top, Splendid oxfords, MISTER. duvall bow tie, Eddie Borgo and Miansai bracelets.

Menswear is a fantastic resource for the fashion-inclined female, and accessories are a great gateway. Men's bags are durable, classic, and usually free of gaudy hardware. I carried one for years! And men's jewelry has that perfectly oversized quality that so many women's jewelry designers seek to emulate. In terms of apparel, sweater sleeves can be really long and bulky, but if you're not afraid to get creative or riff on the ’90s, knits can steal the show. Lastly, look to men's collections for fabulous shirting. I look for oxfords or great plaid flannels from Gant Rugger.

Now, when it comes to tailored items and denim, I say stick to menswear-inspired items found on your favorite women's site, (like Shopbop, naturally). The fit will be superior—cut generously in the right places—and ensuring a chic look.

Ask Shopbop: White Coats

Club Monaco coat and turtleneck. Styled by Rachel.

White coats are beautiful for winter. They have a chicness unparalleled by other outerwear. That being said, these beauties can quickly lose their luster if not well cared for. Cuffs and collars can take the brunt of even semi-frequent wearing—oils from hands, bags, and steering wheels can leave the cuffs in rough shape, and makeup and hair products do a number on collars. Take precaution by layering with scarves and gloves. A barrier between your fabulous cream blush and your even more fabulous coat can save you a hefty dry cleaning bill. Avoid wearing your winter white on days when you'll be in and out of the car or on mass transit. You’re also smart to evade narrow doorways and sitting on seldom-cleaned upholstery, as they’re not a recipe for keeping snowy whites clean. Try a white coat for events that include some outdoor mingling or for a snappy entrance to a big morning meeting. Lastly, make sure your coffee cup lid is secure. Dumping a 12oz americano down the front of your new cashmere isn't the brightest way to start a day. Happy winter!

Ask Shopbop: Lingerie for Day

Rag & Bone cardigan (similar), Cosabella camisole, A.L.C. skirt, Vanessa Mooney body chain. Styled by Rachel.

Finding ways to work lingerie pieces into an outerwear wardrobe is a challenge. But, when done well, the outcome is worth the effort.

Juxtaposing delicate lingerie fabrics with something more substantial can help make the interior layers feel more outdoor-appropriate. Try a charmeuse and lace slip as a dress, and layer a long cozy sweater or long jacket over the top. Sheer tights and boots can give the look a ’90s feel, while bare legs and a strappy sandal can be very glamorous. Finish off either look with an appropriate hat.

Camisoles can be lovely when worn as tops or shells. Try one layered under a sharp skirt suit. The femininity of the cami will soften the intensity of the suiting and provide a nice pop of color and texture. They can also add sex appeal to the menswear styles so prevalent in contemporary fashion these days. Try a lace one under a boyfriend cardigan, or a cute floral number paired with overalls.

Ask Shopbop: Cool Weather Maxi Dresses

A summer staple, maxi dresses also have a place in your cold-weather wardrobe. The comfortable silhouette almost begs for cozy layers. Pairing a maxi with a wide-brim hat and layered scarves will give it a serious bohemian feel—just like in the warmer months— but now, add a snuggly, oversized cardigan to keep it season appropriate. Also, use the long coverage to your advantage and wear your warmest warm leggings or tights underneath. If your maxi is very voluminous, top it with a fitted sweater and leather moto jacket for a fun feminine-meets-tough vibe.

Ask Shopbop: How to Wear a Knit Cap

1717 Olive hat, Tibi dress, Tory Burch bag, 3.1 Phillip Lim sunglasses. Styled by Rachel.

One of the best things about autumn—aside from pumpkin pie—is the reintroduction of hats into your arsenal of seasonally appropriate accessories. Cozy knit caps are a personal favorite, which is convenient because they can solve several styling puzzles. Super chilly but want to avoid wearing a puffer all day? No problem! Bad hair day? Voila! Need to add edge to your look? Solved with a black knit cap! Equally at home with jeans and a sweater or a casual dress, the knit hat is as versatile as it is comfy. Wear it pushed back on the forehead and slouchy for a relaxed vibe or styled with a wide cuff for more of a retro beanie look. One great tip for sourcing knit caps: check out our men's site East Dane. I love the simplicity of menswear, and their winter hat selection doesn't disappoint. Borrow from the boys and try a soft cashmere version from Inhabit or Vince.
