One Day at New York Fashion Week: Shopbop Fashion Director Treena

Our NYFW diaries roll on, today with Fashion Director Treena Lombardo’s notes from Saturday’s events. Check out her account of a whirlwind day dashing between runways in New York.

Saturday is a big day for shows at NYFW! I started the day at Ruffian at 9 a.m.—bright and early! Brian Wolk and Claude Morais, the designers, are great friends of mine, and my best pal, Mark Connolly, styled their runway. The show was great: picture Marie Antoinette living in Brooklyn. They styled the collection with Converse sneaks—adorable—and they had a special Williamsburg Toile de Jouy drawn by the artist John Gordon Gauld. It was gorgeous!

After the show, I made a breakfast stop, and it started pouring rain. It was romantic and relaxing, and, really, the only quiet moment of an otherwise very busy day. After that, it was a quick trip to the office to pick up some of my essentials: Berocca, Smith’s Rosebud Salve, and some Dickinson’s towelettes. I’m telling you, I cannot survive the day without these three products.

The EDUN show was next. This collection was started by Bono (yes, that Bono) and his wife, Ali Hewson. They have a huge portion of the clothes produced in Africa. It’s always nice when people do good things in fashion. From there, Shopbop DMM Darcy and I had a wonderful run-in with Solange Knowles (her hair is fantastic) in the bathroom before the Tibi show. She had her adorable kids at the show, and they sang along to all of the songs.

We wrapped up the night seeing the new designers at Milk Studios. We found some new young stars—look for some exciting collaborations this spring! Then, it was out for drinks at Pastis with friends. It was a lovely end to the day. I wish I could show you pictures, but by that time, both my phone and my feet were pretty well dead.

NYFW Essentials from ELLE Executive Accessories Editor Kate Davidson Hudson

As Executive Accessories Editor for ELLE, Kate Davidson Hudson covers markets from New York to Paris to Geneva. Conceptualizing and styling stories for ELLE and ELLE's online Accessories Channel, Kate picks the newest, latest, and chicest accessory options for every season.

Derek Lam – Haircalf Jacket with Vintage Leather Sleeves
The unexpected mix of patterned calf hair and luxe leather makes this über chic. A permanent piece in any wardrobe.

Thakoon – Breakaway Leather Leggings
The perfect leather pant is hard to come by. I love the rich, matte finish of this pair.

3.1 Phillip Lim – Tie Front Henley Blouse
A modern take on the classic blouse. From jeans to skirts, it adds a sense of polish to any outfit.

Alexander Wang – Kasia Whipstitch Wedge Sandals
The pitch of the wedge is completely manageable, and I love the texture of the whipstitch detailing.

Giuseppe Zanotti Shoes – Tapered Toe Pumps
Giuseppe Zanotti is the master of the pump. I love this variation in stark white—an important color for the season.

Parker – Floral Cami Dress
I love the contrast of a flirty floral frock paired with something a little tougher, like a leather jacket and a strong shoe.

Favorite Holiday Memory:
“One year my family and I had to travel on Christmas Eve. We had ordered car service to get to the airport, and a limo showed up instead. There was a huge snowstorm, and the limo got stuck at the end of our street. We ended up having to carry our luggage down the street and through the snow—of course slipping all the way there. Then to top it off, my mom, dad, sister, and I had to help push the limo out of the snow bank. It was hilarious and just so ridiculous—it is one of our best holiday memories.”
