In a fitting close to New York Fashion Week, Tribune Standard Designer Tawfik Mounayer rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange yesterday, flanked by models wearing his fall 2012 collection. To mark the occasion and to honor his mother, who succumbed to leukemia in 1994, Mounayer donated clothing and headscarves in his signature prints to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Scene @ Fashion Week: ELLE’s Kate Davidson Hudson

ELLE Accessories Director Kate Davidson Hudson at New York Fashion Week.

As New York Fashion Week draws to a close (and London gets started), we talked with ELLE Accessories Director Kate Davidson Hudson about the week that was and what she’s coveting this spring.

Shopbop: Describe NYFW in five words or less.
Kate Davidson Hudson: Exciting, inspiring, exhilarating, intense, compelling.

SB: The biggest misconception about Fashion Week?
KDH: It’s all glamour and no grind. In reality, it’s work and a lot of pounding the pavement.

SB: What’s your best advice for surviving fashion week?
KDH: Don’t hit every after party; sleep is key.

SB: Can you share a favorite NYFW memory?
KDH: I have many, but Alexander Wang’s supermodel finale at his show this week definitely makes the list!

SB: What fall trend was on your radar while attending the shows?
KDH: For fall my challenge is always to find the perfect coat. Right now, I’m hunting for the perfect military-inspired pea coat with fur trim.

SB: What’s the first thing you do post-NYFW?
KDH: Pack my bags. After New York I’m off to Milan and Paris. New York Fashion Week is only the beginning!

SB: And finally, let’s talk about the current season. What spring trend are you wearing to shreds?
KDH: I love the urban athleticisim that we’re seeing in so many of the spring/summer collections. It’s an idea that marries graphic designs with high utility, so the pieces feel fresh and modern, yet highly wearable.

Scene @ Fashion Week: White

It may not be a white winter, but women all over New York Fashion Week are styling themselves in the snowy shade. Worn as a head-to-toe look or as a backdrop for a statement bag, we’re on board with this frosty fashion.

Scene @ Fashion Week: Pastels

Pretty in pink, purple, lemon, and minty green, pastel shades are popping up from Lincoln Center to  Milk Studios and everywhere in between. Our favorite looks? Tone-on-tone styling and pale shades paired back to bold black.

Scene @ Fashion Week: Floral Prints

We’re five days into fashion week, and as it goes every year, the street style looks are proving just as inspiring as those stomping down the runways. One trend that’s caught our eye: floral prints. From the abstract to the boldly graphic, the fashion flock is clearly on board with flora.

Prepping for NYFW with Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss

Emily Weiss began her career in fashion while studying art at NYU, and after honing her skills at W magazine, she settled into a coveted position assisting American Vogue stylist Elissa Santisi. Fully immersed in the industry, Emily launched Into the Gloss in 2010, profiling the insiders and influencers shaping current beauty trends. We asked Emily to share a few tips about surviving the marathon that is New York Fashion Week.

Shopbop: What are your beauty and health rituals in the weeks leading up to NYFW?
Emily Weiss: Manicure and pedicure, of course. Hair cut and color. But the number one most important thing is SLEEP! I have to get as much as I can because as soon as fashion week starts, it goes out the window.

SB: What are your favorite NYFW oases?
EW: I refuel at neighborhood restaurants like Osteria Morini and Café Select, and pop into YogaWorks for a BarWorks class when I can, to keep my strength up.

SB: What is your favorite fashion week memory to date?
EW: Working with designer Derek Lam and stylist Elissa Santisi to put looks together for his runway shows. They are a dream team, always laughing and having fun.
