Shopbop at FNO: Fashion Director Kate Ciepluch

Tomorrow’s the big day, and the excitement over our live Fashion’s Night Out coverage is palpable in the Shopbop offices. We took a minute to talk with Fashion Director Kate Ciepluch about fashion’s biggest shopping event.

Shopbop: What are you most looking forward to doing on Fashion’s Night Out?
Kate Ciepluch: For the first time ever, we’ll be providing FNO video coverage live on our site! We are thrilled to offer our customers a glimpse into this energetic night. I’m looking forward to interviewing designers and seeing all the cool things going on in the stores, from Best Coast at Helmut Lang to the Mercedes Benz-sponsored “Best Street Style” event outside the Derek Lam Soho store.

SB: Why do you think FNO is important to fashion?
KC: As the season turns to fall and the temperature drops in NYC, the atmosphere and mindset automatically shifts. It’s time to kiss the beach goodbye and get slightly more serious about everything in life! FNO officially kicks off the fall shopping season with the best of the collections on display in a celebratory, festive environment where a brand’s personality can really show through.

SB: NYFW starts this week as well. Which shows are you most looking forward to attending?
KC: Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, and Preen.

SB: And finally, let’s talk fall must-haves. What’s on your list?
KC: Sonia Rykiel’s patchwork blazer, a red bootie, Jerome Dreyfuss’s shearling tote, and yummy knits worn with cognac leather pants.

Tune into our official Fashion’s Night Out page tomorrow! Live coverage starts at 8pm Eastern Time.

Shopbop at FNO: Talking with Our Host, Stylist Louise Roe

The third year of fashion’s biggest shopping night is a mere two days away. We’ll be broadcasting live from the streets of NYC starting at 8 p.m. Eastern (details here), with stylist Louise Roe kindly playing host for the evening. We caught up with her before the big event to pick her brain on the phenomenon that is FNO.

Shopbop: Tell us a little about how you got your start in fashion, and what you’re working on now.
Louise Roe: I started out in magazines, as an intern at Elle UK. I had always wanted to write and I loved journalism. After working at a few publications, I ended up on the news (by mistake!) one morning, talking about wedding dresses. Next thing, I had some auditions for different shows and then made the leap to host TV full time. Right now I’ve just wrapped the second season of Plain Jane, the makeover show on CW. I present and am hosting an MTV special called At the Movies, going backstage at the VMAs. I can’t wait.

SB: Let’s talk Fashion’s Night Out. The Shopbop Lounge will be hopping all night with special guests and visitors. Who are you most looking forward to meeting/speaking with the night of the event?
LR: I am a huge fan of Rachel Roy and Pamela Love. Their designs are just a genius combination of edgy, sexy, and chic.

SB: What other events are on your radar for FNO, aside from the Shopbop Lounge?
LR: Alexander Wang’s show and the Alice + Olivia event.

SB: Why do you think FNO is important to fashion?
LR: I remember when it first started. I was working at Vogue.com in London at the time. Suddenly anyone and everyone who adored fashion could have a piece of it: watch runway shows, get discounts, meet designers, hit the parties. It was like all the closed doors of a wonderful, but sometimes exclusive, industry suddenly opened.

SB: And finally, what’s on your list of must-haves for fall?
LR: Orange! Lots of orange. I’m obsessed. It’s so ’70s and bohemian. A cloche hat, an Issa kimono dress, a little cocktail dress from Alice + Olivia, and if I can afford them, a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti booties.

What Are You Doing for Fashion’s Night Out? Lola Rykiel of Sonia Rykiel

The fashion world is gearing up for the four weeks in New York, London, Milan, and Paris that define Fashion Month, but first, they’re getting ready for Fashion’s Night Out. Shopbop’s plan is in action (details here), so we decided to ask a few of our favorite designers what they’re doing for FNO. Today, Sonia Rykiel brand ambassador Lola Rykiel.

Shopbop: Why do you think FNO is important?
Lola Rykiel: FNO is a great idea because it raises fashion to a much more cultural level, rather than just a commercial affair. It is no longer about buying nice jeans but rather about dressing up for an evening out. Shops are open, designers are present, and shoppers are buying the same nice jeans in a completely different context. So magical!

SB: What is your favorite item from your fall 2011 collection?
LR: Definitely the Plaid Long Sleeve Dress from the runway. It is perfectly tailored and fits so well. I wear it with the Lola Bag that I love!

SB: What are you most looking forward to the night of FNO, and for NYFW?
LR: I am excited about going to so many events on the same night and checking out all the different venues. I am also excited about the different Sonia Rykiel outfits that I plan to wear throughout the week mixed up with some beautiful jewelry from Natasha Collis, who’s sending me some unique pieces from London. For Paris Fashion Week, I am looking forward to our show, which will be the 1st of October.

What Are You Doing for Fashion’s Night Out? Kit Willow

Today, the designer behind Australia-based WILLOW clothing, Kit Willow.

Shopbop: What do you have planned for Fashion's Night Out?
Kit Willow: We’re hosting a fabulous cocktail party in Sydney, where I’ll discuss the inspiration behind the WILLOW Urban Rider collection while guests drink Pommery Champagne and munch on Lindt macaroons—yum!

SB: Why do you think FNO is important?
KW: FNO is important because it gives us a chance to speak to the women who wear and love our clothes. It’s the most valuable feedback you can get as a label. And it’s good fun!

SB: What is your favorite item from your fall 2011 collection?
KW: LOVING the print high-waisted pants. Modern edge with comfort—perfection!

What Are You Doing for Fashion’s Night Out? Marchesa

Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig.

Today, the women behind Marchesa and Notte by MARCHESA, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig.

Shopbop: What do you have planned for Fashion’s Night Out?
Georgina Chapman: We’re very excited to be a part of Fashion’s Night Out again this year, and especially thrilled to be in New York, where FNO first began. Our night will be busy running around the city, shopping to support the cause!

SB: Why do you think FNO is important?
Georgina Chapman: FNO really showcases the best of what New York City fashion and retail have to offer. It’s also a great chance to relax and have fun before all the fashion week madness begins.

Keren Craig: Fashion’s Night Out has really become a force in the fashion industry. Having an entire night devoted to supporting designers—established and emerging—is a wonderful way to celebrate what we do.

Shopbop: What is your favorite item from your fall 2011 collection?
Georgina Chapman: The strapless lace cocktail dress with tulle overlay and beaded appliqué is a particular favorite of mine. This dress is a great investment piece: it’s elegant, timeless, and works well for a wide range of occasions.

Keren Craig: I adore the rouge draped strapless dress. It’s effortless, yet subtly sexy.
