Loni, the voice behind Ask Shopbop, just moved into a new house and started renovating. This summer, she’s tackling her to- do list one project at a time.
We’re into our second month in the new place, and the first completed project is our downstairs powder room. I took one look at this tiny bath when we first toured the property and practically made an offer before seeing the upstairs. I love it. The robin’s egg blue wallpaper has a darling, medium-scale white medallion print that I couldn’t bear to lose, and the tiny hexagonal tiles on the floor speak so honestly to the vintage feel of the house. I knew we had to do what we could to save the great elements while giving the room a historically relevant makeover. Demo was first—out came the plumbing fixtures and a poor ’80s tile job that covered the bottom portion of the walls. At a specialty plumbing supply company, we found a beautiful porcelain showerhead that ties in with the existing porcelain bath taps. Then, we installed wooden beadboard on the bare portion of the walls and painted it pure white. We finished it off with some period-appropriate plumbing fixtures, vintage sconces, and some fun accessories.
