First Fashion: Girly Gone Wild

As any good chef can attest, sweetness without spice is cloying, a one-note. And the same holds true in fashion. Fortunately for us, designers are finding balance between the sweet good girl and her spicier femme fatale counterpart this season. These three pieces pay homage to both.

Tough ruffles? Not a contradiction in terms. Like the secret love child of ’70s Yves Saint Laurent and ’80s North Beach Leather, this little leather jacket is living proof that high fashion and street style make beautiful music together. Geren Ford Ruffle Skinny Leather Jacket

What’s the opposite of “sticker shock”? Whatever you call it, I always find myself pleasantly surprised by the price of Free People clothing. This piece is a great way for edgy chicks to get their femme fix, or for dyed-in-the-wool ladylike types looking to explore their dark side. Free People Military Ruffle Jacket

Though both have a certain flair, a knot has a decided insouciance that a prim bow just can’t touch. I’d wear this little strapless number with David Lerner leggings and a Smythe boyfriend blazer. Geren Ford Tie-Front Dress
