Girls’ Night Out

Sexy tops

It’s Friday night and you get a text from your girls: meet for sake-tinis at the sushi joint-cum-ultra-lounge at 7:30. It’s 6:45! For the unprepared woman, this is a fashion crisis of epic proportions. But savvy stylistas have a cache of sexy tops ready and waiting for this very occasion.

The sexy top is the pièce de résistance of any girls’ night-out ensemble. The key is deciding which girl you want to be. Model-off-duty? A body-con LaROK tube top takes on catwalker charisma when paired with harem pants and studded sandals. Enviable It girl? Take a classic style, like a breezy halter, and make it fashion-forward with an unexpected twist. (Try mixing it with Elizabeth and James dress shorts and L.A.M.B. cutout booties.) Casual cutie? A silk cami  bedecked with a few beads, tiered chains, or a flashy print is all you need to make your go-to Citizens jeans really pop.

Speaking of your favorite designer blues, there’s nothing better than a high voltage top to up their ante, but it’s important to be mindful of proportions when styling. If the top is short and svelte balance it with boyfriend or boot-cut jeans and chunky heels; if it’s draped and slouchy, painted-on skinnies and slick stilettos are the ticket. For the girl who wants to have it all, J Brand’s straight-leg jeans pair perfectly with almost any top silhouette, while their trademark dark rinse is an excellent choice for after-dark escapades.

So rather than respond to those last-minute meet-us-at-happy-hour texts with an OMG! panic, simply say OMW. Then don that sequined tank, backless blouse, or slinky cutout tunic.
