After a slow start, summer’s finally made its way to the Northern Hemisphere (manifesting itself in a shocking heat wave in NYC). Here are five ways to keep cool in the sultry days ahead.
1. CHOOSE LOOSE LOOKS
When the mercury rises, stick to relaxed silhouettes like airy rompers and sundresses, billowy blouses, and boyfriend shorts. They’ll let gentle summer breezes whisper against bare skin, cooling it in the process.
2. GO LIGHT IN FABRIC
Like the silhouettes, the fabric should be equally light. Stick with almost-sheer silk crepes and cotton voiles, breathable linen, and easy jersey to maximize flow.
3. ACCESSORIZE TO MINIMIZE
Continuing on our keep-it-light theme, don’t weigh yourself down with heavy metal and big bags. A few slim bracelets will add some shine to a look, and a small cross-body bag will tote the essentials without clinging to your form.
4. AIR OUT THE FEET
If you’re like me, if your feet are warm, you’re warm. My approach each summer? Find a go-to pair of strappy flat sandals and wear them until they wear out.
5. TOP IT OFF
Finish your summer look with two accessories that are equal parts cool and practical. A hat shields your face from the sun (lending a hand to your SPF), and quality sunglasses will protect your peepers from harsh rays.
