How to Wear Printed Pants

On Phoebe: Tibi pants, Vince top, Maison Martin Margiela booties. On Pa: Talulah pants, 3.1 Phillip Lim jacket, Maison Martin Margiela booties.

Printed pants are forever languishing in My Hearts, just sitting there, waiting to be purchased. I love the look, but have always been unsure how to pull off such a bold statement piece. Enter Pa and Phoebe, two talented Shopbop stylists who tackled the trend and proved how easy—and flattering—it can be. (These tropical Nonoo pants are in my cart as we speak!)

Pa on Phoebe:
The celestial print on these Tibi pants has a dark, abstract feel—it almost looks like molecules under a microscope. Mixed metal accessories give the look a personalized touch. These PVC Maison Martin Margiela booties literally go with everything—they look like a fashion risk but are actually quite practical, adding unexpected textures and interest to an otherwise monochromatic outfit.

Phoebe on Pa:
The abstract print drew me to these Talulah pants initially, but adjustable tabs at the cuff are actually perfect for someone petite, like Pa. A tricolor studded jacket balances the prettiness of the floral print—it’s got motorcycle edge, but sophisticated trench styling. A vivid clutch plays up the bright tones of the pants, so I kept the shoes neutral. Finally, I turned to Maison Martin Margiela jewelry for an uncanny twist: rings in an earthy copper color, but with a modern sleekness that matches the overall mood of the look.
