making the new old again

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a truly brilliant vintage find, but in my world, the amount of time it takes to hunt down said find simply doesn’t exist. So I cheat. I know, I know, not authentic, but there are so many fabulous brands dedicated to offering an authentic vintage feel. Shopbop-newcomer Calleen Cordero’s shoes, for example, have that flea-market aesthetic without the wonder of how many pairs of feet found their footing before yours. (If that’s not reason enough to buy new, I don’t know what is.)

But seriously, with summer upon us worn-in-with-love styles are exactly what my wardrobe needs. They’re casual and cool, and they embody that effortless look I strive for every time I get dressed.

That’s why I’ve been spending a lot of time with What Comes Around Goes Around. The brand was founded on the premise of elevating vintage to high-fashion status, and their collection translates that notion to new pieces rooted in the past. I just picked up the Bora Bora Dress, and paired with my Golden Goose shoes, it’ll be a fixture at summer’s many music festivals. To complete the look, I’ll don a long necklace by Victorian Hippie (a new fave brand with a decidedly boho vibe) and a Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth and James bracelet. A slouchy Giorgio Brato handbag (there are similar treasures in our designer handbags sale) will finish the look.

It’s cheating, sure, but sometimes you’ve gotta be bad to look good.
