Must Be the Season of the Wedge

First spotted on the runways of fashion editor darlings Rag & Bone and Alexander Wang last September, spring sees design notables (and girls on the street) rediscovering the charms of the wedge shoe. Though most closely associated with bohemian, ’70s fashion, this style’s substantive look has been re-imagined, repurposed this season, finding itself a fitting complement to forward-looking silhouettes like voluminous soft pants and slouchy walking shorts, or cleverly paired with fitted cargo pants and hip-slung oversized chinos that, let’s face it, could veer into dangerously suburban territory if paired with a standard-issue flat sandal. For an edgier take on the Americana trend, try a chain-trimmed pair fromAsh shoes (above) with sailor-style flare jeans and a Breton striped top. The major wedge adds an off-kilter element that shows you’re no cookie-cutter classic girl.
