It’s New Year’s resolution time, and while you may vow to quit smoking, quit high fructose corn syrup, or quit that oh-so-enigmatic bad boy with the dark eyes and nice lips, we at shopbop feel that 2009 shouldn’t have to be about sacrifice. In fact, we editors have a list of style resolutions that will help take our wardrobes, and therefore our psyches, to the next blissful level.
Amie: This year, I plan to brighten up my shades-of-grey wardrobe, and I’m starting with the creamy oranges, yellows, and blues in Alexander Wang’s resort collection. And since I know I won’t be able to completely let go of my go-to black, I’ll nab an eye-catching handbag (I’ve got a serious crush on Zac Posen’s fuchsia Carine Lock Bag) to add a little pop to my look.
Tonya: In ’09 I’ll be picking up investment pieces that will endure in my closet for years. A functional, polished handbag that transitions well from day to night is number one on my list. The contenders? Gustto’s Baca Bag in black and Rebecca Minkoff’s Morning After Mini Combo Tote. Next on my list is a pair of walkable boots in taupe or brown (I'm eyeing up See by Chloé's Pocket Boot) to go with all my leggings and minis.
Suzanne: I was surveying my jean collection recently and realized it is a homogenous medley of dark-rinse boot-cuts. Unacceptable! I’m making it my mission in 2009 to expand my denim horizons and try as many pairs as it takes until I find the ultimate skinny jean, the most excellent ripped jean, and a crush-worthy cuffed boyfriend (if not an actual crush-worthy boyfriend).
Maureen: My alternate reality style self is a cool Hitchcock blonde (kind of a Grace Kelly/Kim Novak hybrid), but updated for the millennium. Think ladylike dresses from Ports 1961, pencil skirts, and blouses finished with a smart-yet-sexy shoe. My actual self (it probably goes without saying) is not nearly so unflappable or unfailingly chic. I lean way too hard on the grad student-with-a-guilty-fashion-addiction look: lots of denim, blazers, button-downs, sweaters, and boots. Frankly, it’s starting to feel a little sloppy and immature. This year I’ve decided to make like a Hitchcock muse at least once a month (small steps) and don a ladylike dress. Wish me luck.
So now that we’ve dished, spill it: any personal fashion resolutions for ’09? We’d love to hear about—and maybe even copy—them!
