Reflecting on Paris Fashion Week

Kate at the Les Chiffoniers showroom in Paris.

Paris Fashion Week was an exhilarating experience, as always. It is hard NOT to be inspired in this gorgeous city filled with stylish women, the very best stores, and that sexy laid-back attitude.
Lucky for me, I was in Paris right before a fashion editor friend of mine’s birthday, so I was able to pick up some gifts for this fashionable girl in the most stylish city. After I delivered the goodies, she wrote me a note: “Thank you for my Paris treasures! I love them!!”

Her words ring so true as I think back on our trip there. Our days were filled with walking trade shows and visiting showrooms. Our goal: to seek out the most remarkable pieces. And whenever I’m in Paris I end up buying really special things for myself, whether it’s vintage boots for 30 Euros from Kiliwatch, a cool Ambre Babzoe (a new line we’re picking up for fall) rhinestone headband, or a standout skirt (last FW it was Isabel Marant, this time it was Mark Fast). Everything you bring home from this city is truly a treasure that you pull out of your closet years later and think, “What a valuable purchase!”

This idea comes through in the French designers we carry at Shopbop. They create clothes that are understated yet so distinctive. A tradition I have developed is hitting our French lines’ brick-and-mortar stores in Paris to fully understand their point of view.
