shopspotted: flowers as hair accessories

Trend forecaster Anne Ziegler travels the world scoping out the latest and the up-and-coming in areas ranging from fashion to music to art to travel. She’s helped retailers identify current and future trends and has worked with some of the biggest names in the glossies (Elle, Vogue, Lucky). Dream job? You bet it is. Here, Anne talks about a mini trend that’s popping up across the globe.

Blame it on summer love or the season’s heat, but there is no denying that a sweet trend is developing in hair accessories. Once reserved for ladies in tropical locales, girls across the globe are wearing flowers in their hair. I’ve spotted the look in Argentina, Spain, Italy—fashionable women are accessorizing with faux flora, and I have to say, I love the look! It’s simultaneously feminine and confident, and most importantly, looks absolutely adorable.

shopspotted: boyfriend shirts as beach cover-ups

Trend forecaster Anne Ziegler travels the world scoping out the latest and the up-and-coming in areas ranging from fashion to music to art to travel. She’s helped retailers identify current and future trends and has worked with some of the biggest names in the glossies (Elle, Vogue, Lucky). Dream job? You bet it is. Here, Anne offers an alternate way to wear the on-trend boyfriend shirt.

Last weekend I attended the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, a music festival in a small beach town in South Spain. The lineup included Oasis, Kings of Leon, Lykke Li, Franz Ferdinand, and The Killers, and between the beach and the bands, it was an awesome event. But the best part, naturally, was the style. There was an eclectic mix of looks from all over Europe with a definite nod to the ’80s. My favorite discovery was how the girls in attendance took the current boyfriend shirt trend to the beach, turning the button-downs into bathing suit cover-ups. It’s a unique way to start wearing a trend that promises to be huge this fall.

A few of my favorite concert-going looks:

shopspotted: summer whites

Trend forecaster Anne Ziegler travels the world scoping out the latest and the up-and-coming in areas ranging from fashion to music to art to travel. She’s helped retailers identify current and future trends and has worked with some of the biggest names in the glossies (Elle, Vogue, Lucky). Dream job? You bet it is. Here, Anne talks about summer whites, inspired by a recent trip to Buenos Aires.

Memorial Day has come and gone and we know what that means: sum-sum-summertime! It’s the beginning of the sundress and sandal season and, of course, prime time to break out all that white clothing that you so dutifully (okay, maybe not) put away after Labor Day. While I’m not big on fashion rules (and frankly I love the idea of white jeans in the winter), I do tend to save my whites until summer rolls around, more for the symbolism that summer is finally here than for the rule-following. So these days, my white sass & bide jeans are my number one denim choice, and white dresses with strappy sandals are my favored look. For inspiration, I’ve been taking my cues from the stylish and hip girls I encountered on my trip to Buenos Aires in January (the middle of their summer!).

Take a look at these all-white angels—they’ll make you want to give your blue jeans and little black dresses a season off.

Great white jeans paired with a casual pastel tee and a killer bag: a flawless summer look. And girls in Buenos Aires love to wear flowers in their hair—so cute!

ShopSpotted: Rompers were all the rage at Coachella

Trend forecaster Anne Ziegler travels the world scoping out the latest and the up-and-coming in areas ranging from fashion to music to art to travel. She’s helped retailers identify current and future trends and has worked with some of the biggest names in the glossies (Elle, Vogue, Lucky). Dream job? You bet it is. She recently returned from a trip to Milan, and before that, checked out the scene at Coachella. Here, Anne highlights a few concert-goers rocking the must-have romper.

Every year, music-philes attending Coachella can count on three things: a sweltering desert sun, an amazing lineup, and throngs of cute girls sporting the latest and next fashion trends. The third is what interests me the most. While most of my friends navigated from stage to stage following the music, I followed the girls. Yes, that’s right, I was on the hunt for chic girls with individual style. And I found them—plenty of them!

Among the many stylish girls roaming the polo field, I spotted quite a few spring trends, but my favorite style for the weekend had to be the romper. (A sibling to the jumpsuit, but it was way too hot for jumpsuits!) I know, I know, you haven’t worn a onesie since childhood, but the romper proved to be the perfect playful-yet-stylish piece for the festival. These girls were rockin’ the trend and brought their own style into the equation.

I love how this festival-goer paired her romper with a vintage bag and shoes, making the look her own. The romper alone is a great basic, leaving plenty of room to create your own style by accessorizing.

killer music, steamy temps, and cool fashion at coachella

The Latest by Kate, Fashion Director

Kate in her Nightcap vest, Tyler Rose bikini, Wayfarers, and Ksubi shorts.

Coachella was a glimpse of what summer will bring: outdoor music, hotter temps, and innovative fashion from cool girls. I had the opportunity to enjoy Paul McCartney's set (it lasted three hours, and he played all my fave Beatles tracks—the night was emotional, being the anniversary of his wife Linda's death). The Killers and Yeah Yeah Yeahs rocked hard, and a backdrop of the sun setting behind the mountains was ridiculously perfect while soaking in Fleet Foxes’ impressively harmonized ballads.

In the world of fashion highlights, I saw an abundance of maxi dresses, including styles from T-Bags and Mara Hoffman. Denim cutoffs were everywhere, as were crochet tops and dresses in cream, blue, and black. And there was no shortage of brightly colored shades, headbands, and headscarves. Western-inspired fringe bags and boots were huge hits, and tons of girls were rockin’ mini florals, proving they have an edge this season. My favorite look was on USC student, Stephanie (pic below), who effortlessly pulled off the bra trend that's so hot right now! And, I spotted looks from Thayer, Free People, and Rebecca Taylor, all done up with a music-festival-chic twist.

A few of my favorite looks:

Denim shorts were abundant, and florals got a little edge.

Check back Monday for trend-spotter Anne Ziegler’s take on another Coachella must-have: the romper.
