Weardrobe.com just announced the Weardrobe 100: 100 of the best street style shots from the most stylish independent fashion bloggers of 2009. As I was perusing the list, I couldn’t help but be intrigued by those gals blogging from unconventional places far away from the fashion capitals of Paris and New York. Like Krystal in Reno, rocking black and white stripes, shredded light-wash jeans, and a side braid on her blog This Time Tomorrow. Katy of Kansas Couture caught my eye with this ’70s-chic look: electric blue bodysuit tucked into high-waisted khakis. But my fave style crush has got to be Rachel-Marie of Jag Lever—what can I say, I’m a sucker for major bangs, spunkiness, and the fact that this blog is based in Detroit Rock City.
True to her locale, the photos on Jag Lever reflect the sexy garage rock sensibility of an on-fire frontwoman. Anxious to grow my bangs out to my eyelashes and crib a little of this charisma, I elected to cobble together my own down-n-dirty rocker look. I began with a jacket, but decided against the expected leather in favor of a strong-shouldered jersey number by Torn. White skinnies aren’t reserved for sailing expeditions—the peek-a-boo jeans pictured provide daring contrast to all-over black. Finishing touches? A sick pair of Giuseppe Zanotti booties, an Alexander Wang bag (the perfect size for a night on the town), and a bluesy BLOW harmonica necklace.
