Tactile Fall: 3 Textures for Your Autumn Wardrobe

Look 1: Tibi sweater, Tibi skirt. Look 2: DSQUARED2 jacket, DSQUARED pants. Look 3: Catherine Malandrino dress, Diane von Furstenberg pumps.

Autumn brings to mind crisp nights, rustling leaves, and fantastic fashion. Abandoning the lightweight fabrics of spring, designers delve into deep colors, structured silhouettes, and rich textures.  Take a closer look at three touchable textiles you’ll be wearing this fall.

METALLIC
Tibi is a driving force for the revival of fall metallics. Skirts in shimmering Lurex and reflective vinyl hit the runways with overwhelming appeal. Subtle sheen also appears in knit Alexander Wang dresses and polished Rag & Bone blazers. The shine is the show on these pieces. Pair them with minimal jewelry and neutral shoes.

TWEED
A classic cold-weather fabric, tweed plays up its preppy roots this season. DSQUARED2 cut a sharp double-breasted pea coat in a houndstooth plaid, while Peter Som used a slubbed version on a pair of slim tuxedo pants. Pair the substantial fabric with lightweight separates to balance the look.

VELVET
Associated with old-world royalty, velvet has a lush, luxe allure. Catherine Malandrino channeled the feel with a sexy draped dress in brilliant crushed velvet, and Jenni Kayne turned the fabric on its head, doing a burnout interpretation in an abstract print. The fabric can feel slightly retro, so style it back to clean, modern pieces.
