Last week, Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement and set the world aflutter with royal fever. But what we were looking at? The princess-to-be’s dress. Miss Middleton kept her ensemble for standing before a flood of flashing cameras simple, opting for a figure-flattering (and, we might add, comfortable) jersey Issa dress. The London-based brand is designed by Brazilian-born Daniella Helayel, who created the label when she couldn’t find a dress to wear—so she decided to design one herself. Middleton, a friend of Helayel, is a longtime fan of the label and has been spotted in Issa clothing on more than one occasion.
Helayel spoke to People about the future royal’s wardrobe choice for such a momentous occasion: “We are thrilled with the engagement news and I’m very happy that she has chosen to wear Issa today.”
