As much as my cozy sweaters and suede boots tempt me, I always have a hard time letting go of my favorite summer styles once the mercury starts to dip. But a recent post on Refinery 29 has assured me that I don’t have to part with them too soon. These three tips will help my summer wardrobe transition effortlessly into fall:
Layer a Maxi Dress
Though it won't be long before brightly patterned maxi dresses go into retirement, black and grey versions work for cool weather when layered with mixed neutrals. The options are endless: an Elizabeth and James blazer and a tiered necklace make casual jersey perfect for the office; a Winter Kate cardigan and layers of beaded necklaces accentuate the boho feel of a sweeping hemline; and casual-chic girls will love a slouchy Haute Hippie cardigan with a low-slung belt.
Pair Platform Sandals with Socks
The over-the-knee sock trend spotted on so many fall runways will make platform sandals wearable through October. If high socks look a little too intimidating, choose a slouchy ankle version instead.
Play Dress Up with Shorts
Fall is the best time to give casual shorts the high-low treatment. Pair an Equipment blouse with a tailored blazer, and finish off the look with Falke tights, menswear oxfords, and an oversized timepiece by Michael Kors Watches.
